Enjoy it while visiting Key Largo in Florida
The steamboat, which was built in 1912, gained its fame from its appearance in the classic movie “The African Queen” in 1951, featuring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. Its rich history spans over a century and various continents, but it has been located in Key Largo since 1982. In 2012, to celebrate its centennial, the African Queen underwent a restoration costing $70,000. Nowadays, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy 90-minute dinner trips, including a stop at a waterfront restaurant, as well as canal cruise tours. These outings are available at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. every day.
The tour on the canals receives mostly positive reviews from recent passengers. They appreciate the tour guides’ expertise and enthusiasm, as well as the relaxing ride. However, previous travelers mentioned that having an interest in the movie is important to fully enjoy the experience. Otherwise, it might seem a little boring.
