Mayfield Park and Preserve

A place like no other near Austin in Texas

Mayfield Park and Preserve

Mayfield Park and Preserve is a place of historical significance, listed on the National Registry. However, what really draws visitors to this park are its magnificent peacocks. With approximately two dozen of these beautiful birds, they can be found roaming around the entire park. Keep your eyes open as you explore, as they might be perched in trees or even on roofs! The park features a charming historical cottage and lovely gardens, all situated on a 2-acre piece of land generously donated by Mary Mayfield Gutsch to the city of Austin in 1971. In addition to the cottage and gardens, there are also numerous ponds and gardens waiting to be explored. To fully experience Mayfield Preserve, a 21-acre natural landscape, travelers can venture along the walking trails that grant access to its beauty.

Visitors in the past have been impressed by the stunning peacocks at the park. These majestic birds remained calm even with a constant flow of people admiring them. Some lucky parkgoers managed to capture photos of the peacocks displaying their vibrant feathers. It’s worth noting that if you plan to visit during the summer, it can get quite hot, so remember to bring an ample supply of water.
