Glenwood Springs

In addition to all the amazing things to do in Aspen, don’t forget to carve out some time to visit Glenwood Springs in the Roaring Fork Valley. Located about 40 miles northwest of Aspen on Route 82, near the junction of Interstate 70, Glenwood Springs is a must-see destination in Colorado. Just like Aspen, this town offers plenty of hiking trails, fishing spots, and thrilling whitewater rafting experiences. Make sure to explore the fascinating collection of caverns that Glenwood Springs boasts as well. There’s no shortage of adventure in this charming town!

Glenwood Springs is highly regarded among knowledgeable travelers, not just for its caves and trails, but especially for its famous hot springs. These hot springs, known as the Yampah Hot Springs to Native American tribes like the Ute, have been frequented by Indigenous Americans for centuries. Even notable figures such as President Theodore Roosevelt, Molly Brown (known as the “unsinkable” Molly Brown), and the infamous Al Capone have enjoyed these bubbling pools. While recent visitors mention that admission to the pools can be expensive (ranging from $29 to $42 for adults depending on the season), the fee allows you to relax and soak for as long as you want. Travelers find a soak in the hot springs to be incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating, particularly after a few days of skiing. Some previous visitors also suggest visiting in the evening for a less crowded experience.
