Michael C. Carlos Museum

The Michael C. Carlos Museum, situated on Emory University’s campus, has a vast permanent collection of artworks from various ancient civilizations including Egypt, Greece, Nubia, Rome, the Middle East, Africa, the Americas, and Asia. The museum also showcases works ranging from the Renaissance to the present day. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum regularly presents special exhibits covering diverse topics like printing techniques, religious imagery, and slavery in the ancient world. Notably, the museum houses a remarkable collection of 7,500 ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern artifacts, including coffins, funerary masks, and the oldest Egyptian mummy found in the Americas. Equally impressive is its assemblage of over 6,500 Greek and Roman art pieces.

The museum may not be very big, but its collections are truly impressive. Visitors often rave about the remarkable Egyptian artifacts, particularly the mummies, which attract a lot of attention.
