Enjoy it while visiting Milwaukee in Wisconsin
The Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin celebrates more than a century of American motorcycle heritage at the birthplace of one of the world’s most iconic brands. Located on a 20-acre campus along the Menomonee River, the museum opened in 2008 and houses over 450 motorcycles and thousands of artifacts that tell the story of the company founded in a small wooden shed in 1903.
Visitors enter through a striking industrial-style building designed to reflect the city’s manufacturing roots, where the main exhibit hall showcases motorcycles spanning every era of the company’s history. The collection includes Serial Number One, the oldest known Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which was recovered from a barn decades after its construction and carefully preserved as the crown jewel of the museum’s holdings.
The Engine Room exhibit explores the mechanical evolution of the legendary Harley-Davidson V-twin powerplant, displaying cutaway engines that reveal the internal workings of these remarkable machines. Guests can climb aboard interactive displays that simulate the riding experience, twist authentic throttle grips, and feel the distinctive rumble of a Harley engine through specially designed vibration platforms that capture the visceral thrill of the open road.
A dedicated gallery traces the wartime service of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, which supplied more than 90,000 bikes to the U.S. military during World War II and earned the company two Army-Navy Excellence awards. The museum also devotes significant space to the customization movement, displaying choppers, bobbers, and one-of-a-kind builds from legendary builders who transformed stock motorcycles into rolling works of art.
The campus grounds feature a restaurant serving locally inspired fare, a retail shop stocked with exclusive merchandise, and beautifully landscaped riverwalk paths that connect the museum to downtown Milwaukee. During summer months, the museum hosts outdoor concerts, bike nights, and special exhibitions that draw motorcycle enthusiasts from every corner of the globe to this shrine of American ingenuity and freedom.
